About Us

On May 1st, 1957 the Pharmacy and Poisons Act was enacted and the Pharmacy and Poisons Board was established for the control of the pharmacy profession and that of the trade in drugs and poisons.

Since the enactment of the Pharmacy and Poisons Act Cap 244, there have been a number of noteworthy achievements

In 1993 the Board was established as a body corporate. As a body corporate, the Board with perpetual succession is capable in it’s name of:

  1. Suing and being sued;

  2. Taking, purchasing or otherwise acquiring, holding, charging or disposing of movable and immovable property;

  3. Entering into contracts; and

  4. Doing or performing all such other things and acts necessary for the proper performance of its functions under this Act, which may lawfully be done or performed by a body corporate.
Further, being a corporate body, it means that the Board has financial independence. By the said independence, the Board does collect and utilize revenue generated in support of regulatory control activities.
